DEADLY REVENGE: International Police Procedural and Political Mystery Thriller. (DCS Frank Kruger Casebook Book 2) A political thriller with an unexpected twist. From the first lines, which start rather innocent about the 60's birthday party of Wulf Christensen,a member of the Ministry of the Interior in Muenchen, you slowly get drawn into a story of shady politicians, criminals, white-collar criminals and extremist political parties. A generation-conflict between father, Wulf Christensen, and daughter,Andrea, a journalist; the generation which had to live through and experience the turmoils of the Nazi regime and the younger generation of the 'blessed, who had been born after'. With the Bavarian State elections only a few months away, Wulf Christensen wants to introduce a bill 'to give the justice system an enlarged framework in which to deal with violence and terrorism', which, of course, is waking sleeping dogs and the reason for political controversy. The times and painful experiece of the Bader/Meinhof leftwing extremists leads to questions of an anti-terrorism legislation, a 'democratic process with a steely glint of mock irony'. Confronted with violence, treachery, lies and intrigues is DS Frank Krueger with his crew, a police man 'who 'd been old for a lifetime' ; can they solve the atrocious terrorist act and murder of Wulf Christensen and what lies behind? This book has it all: politics, extremism, terrorism, murder and family affair, combined in a breathtaking story. David Fisher is painting a vivid picture on the background of Germany's history. For me, the essence of this book is, are we as a society able to hold the balance between protecting democracy and, at the same time, approve of 'an enlarged framework in which we have to deal with violence and terrorism'. Deadly Revenge is a temporary story on the background of political experience. It definitely is well researched and with a lot of insight into the web of political wheelings, dealings and manipulations which we all are part of. A breathtaking read! I strongly recommend. Well done, David Fisher. Wholeheartedly,5 stars.
