One step of a journey…

Good news. Friday I got an email of the publishing house. My book will be on the shelves and on Amazon in 4 weeks. To write my story was a great pleasure but, to be honest, I wish sometimes I had lived during the times of the good old typewriter. To deal with the internet gives me a stomach ache. I don’t like the internet and its possibilities, especially, I don’t like to depend on it to sell my book. About 80.000 books get published in the U.K. alone, every year. Whoever feels like he or she has something to say, sits down and writes a book. Fair enough. I did that. But even though I do not write in my own native language, words still are a tool of art to me. My daughter-in-law recommended the well known book to me about different grades of shay – an “academic” phantasy e-book, somebody called it. All my friends have read it, so far. I have read it and, after at first glancing nervously around if somebody was taking notice of what I was reading, I even have finished reading it. Like I said, the internet has opened a whole new world of possibilities. My grandmother used to say “paper is patient”; in this case, the web is unlimited in its possibilities to get ones words out. And, more astonishingly, the web makes it possible to reach readers all over the world to spread even the most trivial of stories. I remember the advertising of the first Harry Potter book before it was even out and on the shelves. Until I find some clever PR agent who is willing to work for me, or rather whom I can afford to work for me, I can only write and dream of my words floating through this ether of possibilities. And still, I will keep writing because that is what I want to do.
